Note from the Editors

As Loreto Day approaches, we are reminded of the values that connect us not only as a school community but as members of a global network committed to justice. At the heart of Loreto lies social justice, with the belief that compassion, courage and action have the power to transform the world around us.

Founded by Mary Ward over 400 years ago, the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM) was built on the revolutionary belief that women should be educated, empowered, and given opportunities to lead. At a time when women had limited rights and voices, Mary Ward challenged expectations, advocating for equality, freedom, and education for everyone around the world. Her vision continues to inspire Loreto schools today, reminding us that creating a more just world begins with the courage to speak out and take action.

Guided by the Loreto values of Justice and Freedom, Loreto Day encourages us to stand up for what is right, especially for those whose voices are silenced or unheard. As a community of young women, we are reminded of the strength found in using our voices with confidence and purpose. Whether through advocacy, leadership, or everyday acts of kindness, we each have the ability to challenge injustice and create meaningful change.

In a world that can often feel divided, Loreto Day is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of standing together. It reminds us that even small acts of kindness, understanding, and courage can leave lasting impacts. Through conversations, fundraising, service, and support for one another, every individual has the ability to contribute to something greater than themselves.

This issue celebrates the voices, experiences, and ideas within our community that inspire advocacy, change, and encourage reflection. As you read through these articles and watch videos, we invite you to think about what social justice means to you and how the Loreto values continue to shape the way we learn, connect and grow together.

Perhaps you will discover a new perspective, feel inspired by someone’s story or find your own motivation to make a difference. Either way, we hope this issue encourages you to reflect on the power of community and the importance of using your voice with purpose.

For as we Loreto girls all know well, “small acts make big impacts.”

With love,

The Mary Word Team
